Baggy Method for the Ends Only?

I know that you all have heard of the baggy method where you cover your whole head with a plastic cap or bag to cause the “greenhouse effect” and increase moisture.

But have you ever considered just bagging your ends?  I do this sometimes to give my ends and extra shot of moisture and so that I don’t have to cover my whole head.  Here are some pics of how it looks…

I simply put my hair into 4 braids (2 front and 2 back), then I use a water-based  moisturizer (or water) and an oil on the ends.  I wrap my ends with either saran wrap or pieces of a plastic bag and secure it with an elastic band or ponytail holder.

The end result is soft, shiny, protected ends.  This method is also good if you are wearing wigs as a protective style.

You have to protect and love those ends to grow longer, stronger hair!

Do you baggy your ends?

Update:  The next morning my ends were nicely moisturized and soft!

Coconut Milk Hair Treatment - Tutorial

Breakage can prevented with proper protein and moisture balance.  We also need to be gentle with our hair (“treat it like fine silk”).  I have been doing some research about treatments that can really add moisture to the hair.

I came across coconut milk treatments and was very intrigued by its moisturizing properties so I decided to try it out for a month.  I’m using the treatment below to rehydrate my natural mane and add a boost of moisture!

 Coconut Milk Protein Hair Treatment
The moisturizing qualities of the ingredients, especially the coconut milk, will revive even the most damaged hair. This treatment can be used up to 3 times a week or just once a week.

You can even turn this into a protein treatment by adding mayonnaise and even some honey! This can be used 1 to 2 times a month for wonderful results.

Ingredients:
3 Tbsp conditioner (a Suave conditioner)
2 cups coconut milk (depend on length of hair)
1 Tbsp amla oil (any oil) – optional

 Directions:
  1. Mix all ingredients in a bowl with a fork until combined.
  2. Apply to dry or wet hair prior to shampooing.  This process can get a bit messy…lol.
  3. Allow to set for 30 minutes with heat or 2 to 3 hours without heat.  You can even leave it on overnight under a shower cap or plastic bag.
  4. Rinse well with warm water.
  5. Shampoo as usual.  Do not use a clarifying shampoo because it will undo the conditioning that you just spend hours achieving L
  6. Try to avoid using blow dryers and other styling equipment.

End result…..soft, shiny, and moisturized hair.  Enjoy.

What moisturizing treatments do you use?

IS WATER THE BEST MOISTURIZER???

Is water the best moisturizer?

I was just preparing for bed and about to give my hair some TLC when something catastrophic occurred...I RAN OUT OF MOISTURIZER...OH NO!  After panicking for a second, I remembered that my goal was to run out of product (I was about to send my husband to Wal-Mart to purchase a moisturizer...he would have done it too...lol).  I'm a recovering PJ (8 months and counting).

Anyway, I decided to use water as my moisture.  That's right PURE WATER (H2O).  Water is the best moisturizer for our natural hair or water-based products.  My hair immediately softened and bent to my will.  Just remember to seal with an oil or a butter.

What do you feel is the best moisturizer?  Do you seal after moisturizing?
