My Natural Hair Journey: A 3 year + Summary

I have enjoyed my natural hair journey!  So I decided to celebrate it a bit through pictures. (for more pics visit my Fotki page at http://public.fotki.com/babyshuf2/)

This was the Big Chop or "Big Shave"...

This was my natural hair at the end of 1 year...

This was my natural hair at the end of 2 years...

This is my hair after 3 wonderful years of being natural!!!!

I have not always been happy with my hair and I have had many setbacks.  Sometimes I can not believe I have remained natural for so long.  I always tried to remain positive and rely on my "natural hair support system" (YouTube, Longhaircareforum, Keep It Simple Sister, my husband, my son...and so on).  It does get better and a little bit easier....lol. I LOVE MY NATURAL HAIR...even after all of these years!!!  What a Romance.

Do you love your natural hair?

    1. Thanks Sara! I don't know if I have any secrets. I just try to make sure that my hair has moisture and is stretched. When I where my hair in wash n goes, twist outs, styles that are not stretched, I get more knots and tangles, which for me equals breakage. Don't get me wrong, I love wearing twist outs and braid outs but not all the time. Keeping the ends protected helps too!

    1. I love your hair too Jas! I use conditioner or coconut milk or goats milk as a detangler. The conditioner has to have really good "slip" such as Tresemme Naturals or Moisture Rich conditioner (I both sitting in my shower). Other good ones include Giovanni Smooth As Silk, Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose (at the Vitamin Shoppe), any of the V05 Moisture Milks, Aussie Moist conditioner (the 3-Minute Miracle is the amazing!), and Herbal Essence Hello Hydration.

Coconut milk really softens the hair and is a great detangler. Goats milk has a lot of good things in it such as different minerals, proteins, vitamins, and natural fats. It helps to add shine and moisture to the hair.

For the past 2 weeks I have been using coconut milk! I love the results.

  3. You did go short, wow! I'm not that brave yet but I have been transitioning for 6 mo. I have a few questions for you but I will e-mail you. Your hair is so long and my goal is to have long hair like yours one day. Pray for me, please.

  4. I am so glad I found your blog. I have my relaxed nightmare hair stories, I promised myself never again and let my hair grow for over five years, and then Mr. Brazilian Conditioning Straightener came along. I actually really liked it for the first 18 months, but I've always had random health issues and they hit the fan over a year ago. So I don't have the ability to get my hair taken care of, I had to move away from my hair goddess and I'm not trusting anyone else. My hair stopped growing last fall and started falling out after the new year. I'm dying to cut it off, but I'm not at the point where I can do a lot of things for myself. My freakin' parents take care of me, so if I want to cut all of my hair cut off, they are going to have to drive me, sometimes help me get around, honestly I just don't know. Of course my dad has to be obsessed with long hair because his mother was a Creole goddess and she never cut it, my mom keeps telling me it will grow back. Ugh, so frustrating. On a good day I could drive down the street and have someone do it, I needed to read this to realize it is time to get my Butt in gear. Excuse any typos... typing isn't as easy as it used to be.
